Indiana State Fair not happening this year

INDIANAPOLIS — Fans of the Indiana State Fair will have to wait a year to attend the popular summertime event. The fair board made the announcement on June 4.

“Key elements including vendors and partners of the fair began falling off and so we pivoted and found a way to still serve our communities,” said Brad Chambers, chairman of the Indiana State Fair Commission.

A modified version of the 4-H livestock show will be conducted, said Cindy Hoye, executive director of the Indiana State Fair Commission.

“Agriculture and youth are the foundation of our mission and the heartbeat of the Indiana State Fair, so we are determined and proud to honor our 4-H members with a version of that state fair experience that allows Indiana youth to be recognized for their dedication and hard work,” Hoye said.

She added that the commission worked through options in an attempt to carry on with the fair as planned.

Hoye said the board is planning for the 2021 fair and appreciates the support it has received in light of the difficult decision to cancel the fair.

“To our beloved fans, staff, sponsors, exhibitors, 4-H and FFA members, vendors, volunteers and entertainers, we look forward to being back at full strength in August 2021,” Hoye said.
